10 Essential Questions You Should Ask Your Mold Remediation Company
Here at Mold Inspection Illinois, we have created a database of mold remediation companies just for you. We want you to be aware of all your options when choosing a remediation company, and we want you to be able to pick the absolute best company for your situation.
To help you do this, take a look at these 10 essential questions you should ask a company before using their remediation services:
1. Does your company seal off the infected area while you’re treating my home?
If a company seals off the area of your home that is infected with mold while they’re working, then they’re doing something right. During remediation, mold spores can still be airborne and spread to different parts of your house. If the company seals off the infected area while they’re working, they’re trying to prevent this spread and save you money.
2. What’s the price range of the services you provide? Why?
When it comes to the price of remediation, cheaper isn’t always better. However, more expensive isn’t always better, either. Some companies, unfortunately, will ask for a higher price even though they’re employing the same mold remediation techniques as other companies. Thus, the important part of the question is “why?” If the company has state-of-the-art machinery that’s a step above the rest, it might be better to pay a higher fee. You’ll have to make this decision for yourself and for your home.
3. Do you restore and repair damaged items?
This is a question that really is only personal preference, but should still be addressed. Some companies can repair any items damaged in restoration (such as drywall), while other companies don’t. The ones that do repair items are likely to charge a higher price. It just depends on what you’re willing to pay for.
4. Is air filtration a part of your remediation process?
During remediation, mold spores are flying around throughout the air — thousands of them. To prevent the mold from recolonizing, companies should definitely offer air filtration as a part of their remediation process. If a company doesn’t provide air filtration, it’s probably not a reliable company to choose.
5. How long will it be before my home is restored?
With this, the quicker the better. However, you also want to make sure that the company does a thorough job in the restoration and remediation of your home. It really depends on how long you’re willing to wait, but be sure that you know the answer to this crucial question.
7. How urgent is my mold problem?
You should ask this question when receiving your preliminary mold inspection. That way, you know if you have a bit of time to plan your mold remediation process, or if it needs to be taken care of right away. Obviously, the sooner the better. You don’t want to risk your family’s health any more than you need to.
8. How soon will you be at my house to take care of the mold problem?
If your problem is urgent, you need someone there right away. If a company is too large and busy to attend to your needs immediately, you can find a better one — I guarantee it.
9. Are your technicians IICRC certified?
This is an important certification that technicians often get when they’re serious about mold removal. This certification is a sure way to know that your technicians are experienced and know what they’re doing. In short, this is a great way to know that your home or business is in good hands.
10. Will your company be back for a follow-up visit?
The best companies come back after the remediation to make sure that the mold hasn’t recolonized your home. This is a sure way to know that your mold will be gone — long term.
